"In Their Footsteps"

A Guide for Visitors of Ghetto Terezin

"In Their Footsteps" - a guide booklet for visitors of ghetto Terezin was published this year, by participation of the Educational Center of Beit Terezin staff and Ministry of Education - Social and Youth Administration staff. The guide corresponds with the aims defined in a circular letter of the General Manager, according to the needs of instructors and students, and it means to aid the instructors to make the maximum possible out of it, on their visit to the ghetto. The booklet is divided into 28 locations, each of them accompanied by a detailed explanation, and personal testimonies and drawings/paintings of the ghetto artists. There is also a recommended path to be taken by the visitors, which includes all the most significant sites of the town Terezin. The map emphasizes the important themes, wherein the uniqueness of the ghetto comes to an expression. Terror and deception, living conditions, children and youth education, the family in the ghetto, and artistic activity as means for survival - all these stand in the heart of the tour.

"Being in Terezin"

This site has about 600 items: articles, documents, testimonies, memoirs, drawings/paintings, and poems, all of them original sources from the time of the ghetto. An interactive map, schedule of happenings, and chapters of researches enabling to the user learn the history of the ghetto by using the original and secondary sources. The site has a wise communication system, which makes correspondence between the students, teachers and virtual teachers' possible.

"Ghetto Terezin 1941-1945"

A guidance booklet for teachers and instructors towards the visit of ghetto Terezin. The booklet was published with participation of the Ministry of Education - Social and Youth Administration. The booklet includes articles on diverse themes connected to the history of the ghetto. Also there are two suggested educational activities on themes: The Terezin Artists and Ghetto Terezin - "A Night Shelter".

The daily life in the ghetto and confrontations the youth had to face view the deportations - rumors opposite to information. Dilemma of youth movements members, between the impulse to join family members that were being deported, and between the will to stay in the ghetto. The role youth movements representatives played in preparing lists of the deportees and more. In cooperation with the Pedagogic Technology Center Amal.

"Children Homes in ghetto Terezin"

The CD deals with organization of the children homes and the experience of communal life in overcrowded habitat conditions, hunger and uncertainty. Edited by Sharon Hupert - third generation of the Association, with the help of his grandfather - of the founding generation. An explanatory booklet developed by us, accompanies the CD. This program fits to 7 - 8 graders.

"Incarcerated Dreams"

(Film and guidance booklet)

"Incarcerated Dreams" is an animated film, based on thousands of children drawings and paintings. By artistic means - image and sound - but no speech, it arises the question of creativity and the influence on the children in reality of fear and feeling of the approaching death. The film was produced in the Czech Republic, and Beit Terezin staff developed an accompanying guidance booklet. This program suits all ages.

"Ghetto Theresienstadt 1941-1945"

(Documentary film)

The film tells the story of the ghetto by means of artists' paintings, music and concise verbiage. The film was produced in three languages. The Hebrew edition is accompanied by reading by Nava Shaan, one of the founders of Beit Terezin.
